Events

Event 1

Cracked Chain at the Bastion

Read Aloud

The lower platform hangs over a sea of clouds, its iron rails slick with mist. A massive anchor chain stretches into the void, one link split and glowing faintly along the fracture. Master Rell waits beside the winch, jaw tight with worry.

Details

Master Rell says, 'If that chain gives, we lose the dock. Find what’s biting into the mechanism before the next shift.' Keep this scene brief and practical: the party can inspect, ask, or stress-test the damage. No combat is required here.

Event 2

The Lodged Relic Shard

Read Aloud

Inside the winch housing, a jagged shard of pale stone and metal sits wedged between moving teeth. It gives off a low, uneasy hum that seems to vibrate in your teeth. A narrow seam in the floor nearby catches the light for a moment, then vanishes in the grime.

Details

If players pull the shard, let them choose careful work or force. If they follow the pull, the hatch opens into the service passage. Keep the shard as a physical object the party can carry forward.

Event 3

Service Passage in the Cloud-Wind

Read Aloud

A narrow passage opens beyond the hatch, cut into stone and half-open to the sky. Cold wind howls through it, carrying dust, grit, and scraps of broken metal. Far ahead, the corridor bends toward a sealed door, while side alcoves disappear into shadow.

Details

This scene should feel tense but manageable. Let the players decide between speed, caution, or scavenging. If they search, reward them with a useful rope, wedge, or handholds. If they rush, make them pay with positional trouble rather than a dead end.

Event 4

The Sky-Sigil Door

Read Aloud

A heavy stone door blocks the end of the passage, carved with three sky-sigils in worn silver lines. The same symbols repeat on the surrounding walls, faded but still readable. A thin breath of cold air slips from beneath the door, as if something waits in the dark beyond.

Details

A cloud-wraith lingers inside the chamber, but do not reveal it in the read-aloud. If the party studies the walls, they can infer the correct sigil order. If they force the door, let them get in at a cost and face the occupant immediately.

Event 5

The Chamber Core Decision

Read Aloud

At the chamber’s heart, a ring of stone and metal throbs with unstable light. The relic shard in your hands answers with a low pulse, and the whole room seems to breathe around it. Beneath the machinery, older carvings emerge from the dust—marks no city builder made.

Details

This is the resolution scene. If the party reinforces the anchor, the city is safe for now but the ancient seal remains active. If they destroy the shard, the strain eases in a different way, but the chamber reveals the first clear sign of something bound below the clouds. Either choice should end the immediate dungeon problem cleanly.

Conclusion

With the shard’s power spent and the chamber steadied, the lower platform settles into uneasy calm. The chain groans once, then holds, and the wind through the service passage softens to an ordinary hiss. Master Rell and the crew can finally breathe again, and the immediate threat to the dock is over. The party is given time to rest, patch wounds, and return to Anchorwright Bastion with whatever salvage they recovered. If they wish, they can also trade, sell, or turn in their loot to the local workers and quartermasters before leaving the lower platform behind. The city’s anchors remain intact for now, and the work here is done. Congratulations, you are now Level X!
